Covalent Lithium

Learn how we co-designed an infographic and team badge to support business strategy and drive cohesive workforce performance.

The Scope

Brand StrategyGraphic Design
Situation

Covalent Lithium is excited to play a key role in enabling a clean energy future. Establishing a mine, concentrator, and refinery in Western Australia to extract, process and refine battery-quality lithium hydroxide, this project will deliver significant benefits to the State’s economy and the world.

The Earl Grey Lithium Project, when constructed, will be a unique, fully-integrated producer of battery-quality lithium hydroxide and will include a mine and concentrator at Mount Holland and a refinery in Kwinana.

Covalent Lithium approached Gilligan Group for graphic design support to develop images with specific intentions. One was a comprehensive 3D Value Chain infographic that could help staff to “see” their role within the context of this prolific project; the other, a meaningful team badge drive a sense of belonging for the Mount Holland Commissioning Team.

Our Approach

We worked collaboratively with Covalent’s Business Transformation Lead to co-design a Mount Holland Commissioning team logo, as per the above images. To create a meaningful badge that could be displayed on clothing and site signage, we co-led ideation and strategy workshop to ensure the design effectively captured the local flora and fauna that was relevant and important as a mascot to the site team, as well as overall team culture.

Their choice and rationale informed the design, which featured the thorny devil, and had a retro feel. It was printed on caps, bags, uniforms and vehicles, creating a sense of belonging and team pride.

Our second project, a processing infographic was a depiction of systems and processes, as per the below image. It needed to visually articulate the way various people contributed to the commodity’s process from pit to port. Through a workshop and collaboration, we developed a deep understanding of the company’s end to end production process. This led to the graphic creation.

Results and Outcomes

The process of collaboration and co-design led to the creation of meaningful graphics that play a key role in driving business strategy. The Value Chain infographic visually captured the roles and responsibilities various teams have within the overall project delivery. It captured the systems and processes at a high level, which continues to be used within the business for strategic discussions.

What separates Covalent Lithium from the rest is its strong sense of purpose and mission. These graphics are testament to the importance they place on internal communications and branding as a vehicle to drive high performance within the company. We now have a long-standing relationship with Covalent Lithium and have since been their go-to marketing agency for similar graphic design work.
